Inner Child Work


What is an inner child?

It is just that an inner part of you that is still a child. So why is there a part of you that is still a child? Childhood no matter how good your parents were is very traumatic. Even the act of being born is a trauma. Sometimes things are so traumatizing that a part of you cannot move forward. This part, the inner child, stays in that moment and replays it over and over. This then manifests issues in your adult life.

Example:

If your parents did the cry it out method with you then you may have an inner child in that moment of being left alone. At this time your parents felt you had all you needed and could just cry yourself to sleep. You as the young child wanted to be loved to sleep. You could not understand why your parents did not love you and abandoned you. As a result of this trauma you now feel abandoned and unloved when other leave you.

How do we do inner child work?

Start with the memories you know were traumatizing then you can do shadow work, hypnosis, and other things to get deep in your memories. So now you have picked a memory you can go into meditation back to that memory or you can use a guided meditation to get there.
  • In the meditation you will want to relax and get to that memory.
  • See yourself at the age of the memory in front of you. Also see you as you are now.
  • Your going to want to make this little you feel better. Word to the wise sometimes this little you just want to be heard. It is good to start by listening to them. All their feelings in that moment. Then you may start to love them through this.
  • Examples:
    • explain the situation as you see it now. But still validate their feelings.
    • tell them you are there for them
    • really try to understand
  • Do this as many times you need to.
